<hi style=afpcap>The T-37 primary jet trainer was developed by Cessna in an armed role with two T-Bs being converted to YAT-37D for evaluation. Subsequently these became YA-37As. The requirement for additional counter insurgency aircraft for duty in Vietnam lead the Air Force to request Cessna to convert 39 T-37Bs, then in production, to be delivered as A-37As. More than 500 A-37s were produced with many being transferred to the Republic of Vietnam Air Force. Following the withdrawal of US forces from South East Asia, the A-37 served with the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, while other surplus examples were bought by third world governments.</hi>
